Related termsFrom Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Molecular biology is the study of biology at a molecular level. The field overlaps with other areas of biology and chemistry, particularly genetics and biochemistry. Molecular biology chiefly concerns itself with understanding the interactions between the various systems of a cell, including the interactions between DNA, RNA and protein biosynthesis as well as learning how these interactions are regulated. Writing in Nature in 1961, William Astbury described molecular biology as not so much a technique as an approach, an approach from the viewpoint of the so-called basic sciences with the leading idea of searching below the large-scale manifestations of classical biology for the corresponding molecular plan. It is concerned particularly with the forms of biological molecules and [...] is predominantly three-dimensional and structural—which does not mean, however, that it is merely a refinement of morphology. It must at the same time inquire into genesis and function. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License Is it possible to become a Cell and Molecular Biology Professor with a Doctorate degree in that field? Q. I'm a Undergrad Biology major, planing on obtaining a Doctorate degree in Cell and Molecular Biology. Is it possible to get a job as a college professor with just these degrees, or do I need more? (This is just a back up option, but any information would be very helpful) Asked by Kc - Mon May 3 19:14:07 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Depends entirely on the department of the college you want to work. I have people at my college teaching who may not be a Professor. They are lecturers, or worked under a Prof. and they gave them an underclassmen class to teach. Etc. MANY circumstances...but once you're gotten that level of academic ammunition, you probably can. Answered by Bob S - Mon May 3 19:16:45 2010 Which applies more to cells and drugs, microbiology-immunology or molecular biology? Q. I'm very interested in the study of drugs, antibiotics, etc on and their effect on cells. What major should I choose? Microbiology and Immunology or Molecular biology? But, like 'Alex E' answered you are actually looking to study Biochemistry and Medicinal Chemistry. You may want to look into Pharmacy School as that seems to be what you are interested in. Q. Pros and Cons about molecular biology & biotechnology? So there are controversies out there now about biotechnology of plants. The pros about having molecularly engineered plants to have a sufficient amount of food and have genetically modified food to save gas and other materials. Opposing the pros, there are many cons such as evolution of other harmful plants and our environment. What are some other pros and cons to this idea? What are some of your views? Asked by blah b - Thu Apr 3 22:28:09 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. There has been nothing or very little done to prove that gmos( genetically modified organisms) increase crop production, as there has been very little done on studying it at all, as wanted by the companies producing gmos. They do however create crops that are not as eaten by insects, as they have pesticides built into them( some, including certain varieties of corn, mostly fed to cattle at least do) Also certain plants can be made round up ready- where they will not be killed by round up, and therefor are sprayed with unbelievable loads of the stuff. There is also a plant, the gmo giant and front runner, Monsanto is trying to produce called the " terminator" which becomes sterile after its first use, and cannot be used to grow a plant… [cont.] Answered by J.D. - Thu Apr 3 23:26:13 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "molecular biology" College-bound Volunteers Earn Maria Cavallo Scholarships - Ventura County Star
