Psychotherapy, or personal counseling with a psychotherapist, is an intentional interpersonal relationship used by trained psychotherapists to aid a client or patient in problems of living. It aims to increase the individual's sense of their own well-being. Psychotherapists employ a range of techniques based on experiential relationship building, dialogue, communication and behavior change and that are designed to improve the mental health of a client or patient, or to improve group relationships (such as in a family). Psychotherapy may also be performed by practitioners with a number of different qualifications, including psychiatry, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, mental health counseling, clinical or psychiatric social work, marriage and family therapy, rehabilitation counseling, music therapy, occupational therapy, psychiatric nursing, psychoanalysis and others. It may be legally regulated, voluntarily regulated or unregulated, depending on the jurisdiction. From Wikipedia under the

It's unclear from your question whether you are going to be just starting your undergrad degree or whether you are applying to grad schools. If you are still in high school, then you don't need to worry about this just yet. While you will learn a little bit about psychotherapy as part of a psychology major, it is in grad school where you would actually study it at the level needed to become a psychotherapist. In this case, any good university will have a halfway-decent undergrad psych program. Just work hard and get good grades so that you will be competitive for grad programs. If you are already in college and looking at grad schools, the easiest way to get a sense of the best programs would be to ask the clinical psych faculty. … [cont.] Answered by phaedra - Fri Aug 18 14:00:26 2006 Is there a recent psychotherapy that stresses positive thinking? Q. well i was playing a video game called Metal Gear solid 4 and it was mentioned that a character named Revolver Ocelot had used psychotherapy to give himself the personality, thoughts, and so on of a completely separate character. Of course this is a video game, but psychotherapy is real so i was wondering if this is possible? another example of something similar is in MGS1 when it is said Meryl Silverburgh used psychotherapy to make her unattracted to the opposite sex, is that possible too? thanks Asked by Miyazaki Nagato - Wed Aug 12 01:14:45 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A.
