A pond is a body of standing water, either natural or man-made, that is usually smaller than a lake. A wide variety of man-made bodies of water are classified as ponds, including water gardens designed for aesthetic ornamentation, fish ponds designed for commercial fish breeding, and solar ponds designed to store thermal energy. Ponds and lakes are distinguished from streams via current speed. While currents in streams are easily observed, ponds and lakes possess thermally driven microcurrents and moderate wind driven currents. These features distinguish a pond from many other aquatic terrain features, such as stream pools and tide pools. Some mills use the kinetic energy of the moving water in the pond to generate electricity. From Wikipedia under the

From Google News Search: "Pond" I have a pond in my back yard and it is full of crayfish(crawdads) Does anyone know how to get rid of them? Q. Well, my pond is full of these things, and the pond is full of holes, some wholes are as big as your fist! My pond will leak down pretty quickly. I have tried Bentinite(lots of it) and the pond still leaks. I really think if the crawdad or crayfish were not in our pond then the pond it would hold water. And maybe then the bentinite would fix the holes. But these things were still there after we put about 400 lbs of bentinite in the pond, Now the pond is about 1/4 of a acer and so that is not really big-So could someone please help?? Because right now it has some water but as the weather heats up i assume it will go dry. It went dry last year. The only thing the pond is good for at this moment is for the grandbabys to catch lobsters!!! (LOL [cont.] Asked by luckyladyd - Sun Apr 29 21:50:15 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. I live in East Texas and we have crawfish at the bottom of my hill. It is not legal, but I live in the country and no one has checked on this yet. I put a moth ball down each hole and close it up with my foot. This kills the crawfish, and if there are a lot of them, there may be an odor after they die. Good luck. I have a 7 year old pump in a 1600 gallon pond with a two foot waterfall. The pump has always worked well but this year when I put it in the pond it had a high pitched whine but worked. The whine got louder the longer it was on. I unplugged it yesterday and today when I tried it - nothing! Asked by michellee - Mon Apr 14 17:08:39 2008 - - 12 Answers - 0 Comments A. Yes you need to replace it. 7 years is a long time for a pump to last. Be happy it lasted that long and get a new one. Answered by floridaflammemarijuana - Mon Apr 14 17:12:39 2008 Recently built a fish pond and used railroad ties around the edges. Can this hurt the fish?
Q. These railroad ties are 20 years old, but you can still smell the creosote. The pond water does not actually touch the ties, but rainwater will run off them into the pond. If I need to coat them with something to prevent this, what product would I use? Asked by Donna D - Fri Mar 7 15:15:26 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. Yes. They have been treated with a chemical that can hurt or kill your fish and maybe even your plants. Even if they are not touching the water it can be washed from them into the pond. Don't even use landscape timbers as these are pressure treated. Answered by Water Garden Vista - Fri Mar 7 15:23:33 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Pond" |
