GNU Free Documentation License What would you find more plausible, the discovery of a moral fact or a new subatomic particle? Q. There is a major press conference at the some University. A group of distinguished researchers from psychology, sociology, philosophy, and biology have all gathered to announce an important discovery: the clear and confirmed discovery of a moral fact. Would you find that more or less plausible than the announcement of a similarly distinguished group of researchers from the physics department that they have discovered a new subatomic particle? Asked by Snaphappy13 - Thu Aug 14 19:21:23 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. The particle would be a more clear-cut question, and emotionally neutral. I'm not sure what they would mean by a moral fact. You could say that murder (taking an innocent human life) is morally wrong because God says so. Discovering that is as simple as reading the Bible. Or you could say that murder is wrong because research has showed many ways in which a society where murder is prevalent is inferior, or more damaging to people, than one where murder is not prevalent. Perhaps this is what you're thinking of. Answered by Frank N - Sat Aug 16 10:16:37 2008 What would be the 21st century greatest achievement or discovery ? Q. Let's supposed we are in 2099 today. What was the greatest achievement or discovery of this century ? My guess : The discovery of intelligent extra-terrestrial lifeforms. Your turn. Maybe i should have mentioned, things relative to space and astronomy ;) Asked by Kaynos - Sat Aug 25 15:22:32 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Well, I agree that intelligent extraterrestrial lifeforms will be in contact with us sometime in the next century. Other great achievements (extrapolating from the achievements of the last century) likely to happen are: 1) The development of true artificial intelligence beyond human capability. 2) The alteration of the human genome to greatly lengthen life or actually induce immortality. 3) The production of nanites that will work inside the human body to forever wipe out disease and other ailments. 4) The creation of a unified world government that genuinely works toward the advancement and betterment of humanity. 5) The colonization of other terrestrial bodies within or beyond our own solar system. Answered by Eric W - Sat Aug 25 15:41:18 2007 What positive or negative contributions does the discovery of the neutron have on society ?
Q. How would this show evidence of global considerations ? How did the discovery of the neutron affected us ? Asked by Tamara - Sat Oct 20 21:51:44 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. As the Neutron is neither positive or negative, it has no direct impact on society except that neutrons are present in all matter (material things), (except normal hydrogen). However since its 'discovery' and the fact that it can be used in splitting atoms, the impact on the Global scale has been catastrophic (A-bombs) in some instances and a 'blessing ?', in others (Nuclear power).
