Nounchurches
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A church building is a building or structure whose primary purpose is to facilitate the meeting of a church. Originally, Jewish Christians met in synagogues, such as the Cenacle, and in one another's homes. As Christianity grew and became more accepted by governments, rooms and, eventually, entire buildings were set aside for the explicit purpose of Christian worship. Traditional church buildings are often in the shape of a cross and frequently have a tower or dome. More modern church buildings have a variety of architectural styles and layouts; many buildings that were designed for other purposes have now been converted for church use, and, similarly, many original church buildings have been put to other uses. Q. I grew up going to Baptist and Methodist churches. There is a new church in my neighborhood I want to try. It is an ECC church, can anyone tell me what to expect if I go. Asked by MsLady - Tue Jun 9 22:00:49 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. If you are referring to an Evangelical Covenant Church, they tend to be charismatic, almost bent toward pentecostalism. They are theologically and politically conservative like most Baptists and are evangelical (beleive in proseltyzing) in nature like the Methodists and Baptists, but are more likely to beleive in faith healing, speaking in tongues and othher as they call "outward" spiritual gifts. It would probably not be your best fit coming from the more conservative worship style of the churches you have experienced, but it doesn't hurt to visit and see. It would not be for me, but as an Episcopalain, I have never been comfortable in any evangelical style church. You will find less conservative political activism than you might tend… [cont.] Answered by rumbler_12 - Tue Jun 9 22:10:16 2009 What ways do churches market themselves? Q. I am attending a church with only 40members. I would be more excited to keep going if there were more members. How do churches market themselves without being pushy? Asked by xtra9009 - Sun May 10 18:17:31 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments Have you heard churches violate their tax exemption status?
Q. I turned a South Dakota church in for their status in 2004 and a Montana church in for their exemption status in 2006. Both churches were telling people how to vote based on one issue and wouldn't allow questions or discussion. The South Dakota church called John Kerry "Hitler." It was complete brainwashing. I challenge you to visit churches this political season and bring your tape recorder and your big football friends. Asked by Love - Tue Sep 9 17:13:30 2008 - - 11 Answers - 0 Comments A. I have a theory about that, since most TV evangelists are very rich people with so many mansions he didn't know how many he had. Fleets of jets and cars and they do support one particular political party. In God's due time and place when he decides to bring about Armageddon and destroy the wicked it will not matter who the president is. He has brought down the powerful Pharaoh who thought he was God. He brought down kings, and his queens. The king of Babylon thought he was unable to be dethroned but in one night he was killed and his city destroyed. When the moment hits we do not know what will happen to bring it about but it will happen, right on time. Answered by Ruth - Tue Sep 9 17:24:16 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "churches" |
