Canadians are citizens of Canada. Canada is a multiethnic society, home to people of many different ethnic and national backgrounds. As a result, Canadians do not take their nationality as an ethnicity. Aside from the indigenous Aboriginal peoples, who according to the 2006 Canadian Census enumerated 1,172,790, 3.8% of the country's total population, nearly all Canadians or their ancestors immigrated to Canada within the past five centuries, and the overwhelming majority arrived in the twentieth century.

The majority of Canadians live in Canada; however, there are approximately 2,800,000 Canadians abroad as of November 1, 2009. This represents 7.5% of the total Canadian population, which is 36,960,000 as of July 2010. Of those abroad the United States, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Taiwan, China, and Lebanon have the largest Canadian diaspora. Canadians in United States are by far the greatest single expatriate community at over 1 million in 2009, representing 35.8% of all Canadians abroad.

How does the Canadian credit system work?
Q. I am very familiar with the US credit system as I am in real estate. I am curious how the Canadian system works. Also, when Canadians (or any other immigrants) move to the US they have to start all over again with regards to building credit. Is the same true a US citizen, emigrating to Canada?

A. as I understand it the two systems are basiclly the same, because they are the same companies doing the ratings. The information is shared between offices by the companies that do credit ratings. I would think that immigrants between Canada and the US would have a paper trail but immigrants comming from other countries would have to start at square one.

A. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) tracked very closely the inflation experienced by seniors as a group between 1992 and 2004, according to a new study. This is important because the CPI is used to index old-age pensions. During this 12-year span, seniors-only households experienced an average annual rate of inflation of 1.95%. This was only slightly higher than the rate of 1.84% for all other households, and 1.86% for all households combined. The study examined the inflation rate experienced by households composed exclusively of seniors aged 65 and over, comparing them with all other Canadian households and the official CPI. Starting in 1998, seniors did begin to encounter slightly higher price increases for certain items. As a result, a… [cont.]

When a Canadian company is bought out, can an employee be forced to stay on for 6 months or recieve a penalty?
Q. I work part time for a small business. The owner is considering retiring and is contemplating selling the business to an associate of his. The buyer wants a clause that would force all employees to remain with the company for the first 6 months, or the seller and possibly the employees would be penalized. I can't stand the buyer and absolutely will not work even one day for him. Under Canadian law is this even legal? What do you recommend I do. Please site sources wherever possible so I can research more. Thanks!

A. Hi Reiki Chick, I suspect that if it were a Canadian law, he would not be asking for a clause to force anyone to do anything and he would most likely be quoting the law, as written. The potential buyer sounds like a real loser and a jerk on top of that. I would highly suggest telling him to stick it where the sun don't shine. Wasn't he the one who walked into a doctors office with a frog sitting on top of his head and when the doctor asked may I help you, the frog said yeah, you can remove this growth from my behind.
