Canada / ˈ k æ n ə d ə / is a country occupying most of northern North America, extending from the Atlantic Ocean in the east to the Pacific Ocean in the west and northward into the Arctic Ocean. It is the world's second largest country by total area. Canada's common border with the United States to the south and northwest is the longest in the world. The land occupied by Canada was inhabited for millennia by various groups of Aboriginal people. Beginning in the late 15th century, British and French expeditions explored, and later settled along, the Atlantic coast. France ceded nearly all of its colonies in North America in 1763 after the Seven Years' War. In 1867, with the union of three British North American colonies through Confederation, Canada was formed as a federal dominion of four provinces. This began an accretion of provinces and territories and a process of increasing autonomy from the United Kingdom. This widening autonomy was highlighted by the Statute of Westminster of 1931 and culminated in the Canada Act of 1982, which severed the vestiges of legal dependence on the British parliament. A federation consisting of ten provinces and three territories, Canada is governed as a parliamentary democracy and a constitutional monarchy with Queen Elizabeth II as its head of state. It is a bilingual nation with both English and French as official languages at the federal level. One of the world's highly developed countries, Canada has a diversified economy that is reliant upon its abundant natural resources and upon trade—particularly with the United States, with which Canada has had a long and complex relationship. It is a member of the G8, G-20, NATO, OECD, WTO, Commonwealth, Francophonie, OAS, APEC, and UN. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License What are good Canadian universities for a computer engineering / computer science masters degree ? Q. I'm a computer engineering graduate who is planning on pursuing a masters degree in Canada. I was wondering what Canadian universities that are good in the computer science / computer engineering field ? Asked by A - Wed Aug 19 09:36:55 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. the University of Waterloo in Waterloo Ontario Canada has one of the best computer programs in the world. Bill Gates has visited the university several times, top students are recruited by major companies right after graduation, and they have a Co-Op program giving their students a leg up over kids from other schools. (if your grades are good the Co-ops can be amazing i knew a kid IMB flew to Florida to work for them for four months and they were paying him like king!). There are a ton of international students at Waterloo and both their computer science and computer engineering programs are the best in North America. It is a VERY competitive school the programs are hard and really hard to get into, but if your grades are good go for it! I'm a Canadian student planning to go to the U.S for college and for my adult life. What is the process I will go through in order to become an American citizen? I want to hold dual American-Canadian citizenship. Asked by 0 - Sat Jul 18 23:53:11 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. 1. Marry American citizen and have them petition I-130 for you, etc, eventually leads to Green Card-GC 2. Graduate from your college, find a job and have the employer get H1B for you. Then the employer can petition I-140 for you (GC Application for Alien Worker). Once you get your GC, this would be a sure way to get American citizenship. Good luck :) Answered by BikerBabe - Sun Jul 19 00:06:45 2009 What is the Canadian equivalent of the US Federal Reserve Board?
Q. And also currently what kind of monetary policies are they following? Are they lowering interest rates to such lows as in the US? Are they doing anything else to cause the Canadian dollar to weaken? Asked by The Lemur v1.03 - Wed Jan 7 11:39:11 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. The Bank of Canada is the central bank and they are expected to cut interest rates further in 2009. Right now it's at 1.50. A Merrill Lynch analyst expects a 0.50 rate cut in January and another 0.50 rate cut in March.
