An alphabet is a standardized set of letters — basic written symbols or graphemes — each of which roughly represents a phoneme in a spoken language, either as it exists now or as it was in the past. There are other systems, such as logographies, in which each character represents a word, morpheme, or semantic unit, and syllabaries, in which each character represents a syllable. Alphabets are classified according to how they indicate vowels:
The word "alphabet" came into Middle English from the Late Latin word Alphabetum, which in turn originated in the Ancient Greek Αλφάβητος Alphabetos, from alpha and beta, the first two letters of the Greek alphabet. Alpha and beta in turn came from the first two letters of the Phoenician alphabet, and meant ox and house respectively. There are dozens of alphabets in use today, the most common being Latin, deriving from the first true alphabet, Greek. I often wonder how the noodles in my Campbell's alphabet soup are made. Do they have a pasta stamp machine that rolls them out in alphabetical order, or do they use a giant stamp that looks like a QWERTY keyboard? I'm quite certain they don't have little noodle gnomes in their factories. Does anyone perhaps know someone who works for a soup company? You need to spend at least one hour every day. Master vowels on first day, and one group of consonants on every day thereafter. After that, start with reading simple texts, but keep at it by reading more complex Hindi books and Hindi on the internet. Hindi alphabet are very logically and phonetically arranged.
