The Food and Drug Administration (FDA or USFDA) is an agency of the United States Department of Health and Human Services, one of the United States federal executive departments, responsible for protecting and promoting public health through the regulation and supervision of food safety, tobacco products, dietary supplements, prescription and over-the-counter pharmaceutical drugs (medications), vaccines, biopharmaceuticals, blood transfusions, medical devices, electromagnetic radiation emitting devices (ERED), veterinary products, and cosmetics.

The FDA also enforces other laws, notably Section 361 of the Public Health Service Act and associated regulations, many of which are not directly related to food or drugs. These include sanitation requirements on interstate travel and control of disease on products ranging from certain household pets to sperm donation for assisted reproduction.

The FDA is led by a Commissioner of Food and Drugs, appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate. The Commissioner reports to the Secretary of Health and Human Services. The 21st and current Commissioner is Dr. Margaret A. Hamburg. She has served as Commissioner since February 2009.

The FDA has its headquarters at Silver Spring, Maryland and has 223 field offices and 13 laboratories located throughout the 50 states, the United States Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. In 2008 the FDA started opening offices in foreign countries, including China, India, Costa Rica, Chile, Belgium, and the United Kingdom.

am i missing something here? do you see an answer to this question?
Q. the question was: does your company use any gm ingredients in your products? the answer was: Thank you for the opportunity to respond to your inquiry regarding genetically modified products in Post Cereals. Scientists have suggested that genetically modified agricultural products will bring great benefits to society in the future. However, while we encourage efforts designed to create societal benefits, we believe that with respect to food products, safety considerations must be given the highest priority. Regulatory responsibility for much of the nation's food supply falls to the United States Food and Drug Administration. Post Foods, LLC procures for use in its products only those food ingredients considered safe by the FDA. The FDA… [cont.]

A. It says that Post only uses ingredients that the FDA considers safe, and that the FDA permits certain genetically modified crops to be manufactured and sold in the US. And that there has been mixing of gm and traditional corn by wholesalers of corn-based ingredients since there is no regulation that requires it to be labeled as such. Sounds like a bunch of roundabout ways to say, "maybe we do, maybe we don't, but since there is no regulation requiring the labeling of such by the corn wholesalers we get corn from, and we're not sure how the public will respond, we'll pretend to answer your question." Damn corporations.

Worst of the Worst.. What are the worlds worst companies?
Q. At the top of my list is the Monsanto corporation. Taking advantage of new patent laws, the Monsanto corporation patented 11,000 seeds which were already an existing part of nature. After that they got to work, creating a law firm of the name of King & Spaulding with the sole intention of sueing anyone and everyone possible. They then started spreading a patented bio-engineered seed into thousands of farms in the US and Canada and successfully sued these farms for unwittingly having the patented plant growing somewhere in their farm. Also Monsanto has been sueing dairy producers for labeling that they DO NOT contain a Monsanto bio-engineered rBGH a known cancer tumor promoter, which is illegal in every industrialized nation except for… [cont.]
